The 2014 Calendars are Here!

We are happy to announce that our yearly fabric calendars are finally here, and just in time for holiday gift giving!  The calendars just arrived in our Brooklyn studio from Lithuania, where they are hand-screened on beautiful linen. Lotta has created these calendars for 13 years now, and they have become somewhat of a collector’s item. We prefer to make them in small, limited editions, so do make sure to nab your’s fast since we do not reprint or reproduce them. This year there are two designs to choose from: one for you, and one for your best friend (or mom or auntie).

The cost for the calendar is $26 each.

If you make sure to place your order today, Tuesday, Dec. 10, we will aim to send the order out by this Friday the 13th. We ship by USPS Priority Mail.  The shipping cost for domestic orders is $8 and it is $25 for international orders.

UPDATE: All calendars are now available at Lotta’s new webshop. You can find them here.

Bespoke Wedding Invitations

I am thrilled to be launching a collection of bespoke wedding stationery in collaboration with my good friend Breck of Sesame Letterpress.

Lotta and Breck

In the past, I have created a handful of custom wedding invitations for special friends but have never taken the leap to offer wedding stationery officially to everyone, even though I have had many requests and much interest. With this collaboration, I am delighted to finally be able to introduce wedding stationery for your special day.

Sesame Letterpress has more than a decade of expertise creating custom letterpress invitations out of their Brooklyn studio. As a boutique design shop, they can work closely with you to guide you through the process of creating invitations for your wedding. All of their printing is done on-site and all pieces are hand-fed into Victorian machines one at a time, resulting in the most exquisitely beautiful stationery. Their work has been featured in Martha Stewart WeddingsInStyle,Lucky, Brides and The Knot, to name just a few.

To start my collaboration with Sesame Letterpress, I am offering a collection with some of my signature patterns and motifs. The beauty of letterpress printing is a great pairing with my illustrations and bright palette, and this stationery is perfect for a couple with a penchant for bold, modern designs. Even if you’re not in the market for wedding invitations, the thank you cards are perfect for any occasion. You can view the collection and learn more details here.

Scrap Bag Fall Sale!

It is finally time again for our popular remnant bags! We have carefully put together a batch of bags filled with little pieces of colorful cotton and linen Lotta Jansdotter remnants — bags filled with possibilities and inspiration. After a long and relaxing summer in Scandinavia, we are back in our Brooklyn studio, returning to our sewing machines and projects in a big way. There are so many simple and sweet projects on our list, especially as we get into the gift-making season, so we thought we’d share a few that have caught our eye. Any of these would be a perfect way to use one of our scrap bags, available right here.
You can see all the projects and links on our Pinterest page.
Get a Scrap Bag! *SOLD OUT*
$28 plus $8 for shipping and handling.
Each scrap bag is unique and comes with a spectrum of fabric, enough to cover a 24” x 26” area. We tend to run out of these bags quickly, so stock up if you can!
About Shipping: Recently the shipping rates with the US Postal Service have gone up a great deal, especially for international shipping. Actually, it is REAL expensive to ship abroad, so much so that we cannot offer it for this sale. We are very sorry about that.

It’s been a very exciting year in our Brooklyn studio. We have worked with so many fantastic companies and craftspeople to bring you a ton of brand new Lotta Jansdotter products — and in some cases, entirely new categories!
If you are going to the NY NOW show (formerly the New York International Gift Show), we encourage you to stop by and say hello to some of the wonderful people producing and representing our work.BLOG_2013_8-16-1

This year we’ll be producing two styles, each hand-screened and sewn in Lithuania on 100% linen. Our calendars are notorious for selling out quickly, so we recommend acting fast!

Crash Candles

Made in Chicago, these beautiful glass tumblers come filled with natural soy wax and are thoughtfully packaged in custom-designed kraft gift boxes. The Crash Candles collection includes 17 unique designs, with three brand-new designs this year. And when the wax has burned through, the vessels make wonderful juice glasses that coordinate wonderfully with our melamine dinnerware collection.

The NY NOW show will be open at the Javits Center in New York City from August 18 – 21.
For those of you not able to attend the show, please contact the companies directly for more information.

Say hello to Maker number four. Friends of Socktopus owner Clarity Miller turned lemons into lemonade when she was diagnosed with a rare and serious kidney disease which made it impossible to have a “regular” job. Instead, she decided to get to work on something she loved: sewing! Her colorful shop offers pages and pages of cheerful stuffed friends — from foxes, owls and elephants to sock monkeys, octopi and wiener dogs. We just cannot get over how adorable those wiener dogs are, even now that we have a full litter of our own in the studio.
All of Clarity’s items are handmade at her home in the San Juan Islands of Washington state. We have three different Lotta Jansdotter doggies available in our Brooklyn Work + Shop for $36 each. Stop by and say hello!

Makers Project — Oonala

On to Maker number three! Karen Sairanen of Washington, North Carolina, started making fabric bonnets for her own daughters 40 years ago. She went on to study Textiles and Clothing at Iowa State University and got a Master’s Degree in Textiles at Cornell University. From there, she has worked as a weaver, teacher and more. It wasn’t until years later, when those bonnets were passed down to her grandchildren and she received so many encouraging comments, that she decided to make them again under the name Oonala. We’re so glad she did! She says they are the perfect cover up for windy days and are great for going under gaping hoods and helmets.
Each bonnet is made of cotton and is reversible and washable. We have two styles in our shop — both made from Lotta Jansdotter fabrics, of course! They are one size fits all and cost $36. Come and get them now in our Brooklyn Work + Shop!
